The project was a large-scale commercial apartment complex with multiple buildings and staged establishments, located in Wanaka.
Piling consisted of driven 200UC piles of varying lengths starting at 6m in length up to 17m long. Tender submission was on the basis of lengths to be confirmed on site, once test piling was completed and before Building 7 and 9 design was completed.
Building 10 consisted of supply and install 28 x 200UC.46 steel piles @ 7m long and 36 x 200UC.46 steel piles @ 5.5m long, plus welded nelson stud pile connection. Piling works Building 8, supply and install 41 x 200UC.46 steel piles @ 9m long and 41 x 200UC.46 steel piles @ 8m long, plus welded nelson stud pile connection
Piling works Building 7 and 9, supply and install 91 x 200UC.46 steel piles @ 8m long and 83 x 200UC.46 steel piles @ 6m long, plus welded nelson stud pile connection. All pile connections were full pen welds by ticketed welder and inspected by SGS to comply to AS/NZS 1554.1:2014 SP, table 6.2.2.
In total Moore Construction achieved the outcomes in line with the program supplied by SJV, we had 4 establishments driving a total of 320 piles. Problems encountered with the ground conditions were randomly occurring boulders in lake sediment, causing verticality issues for 1 in 10-15 piles. This was overcome with steel spike and flexibility in the design.
