Project Overview

Moore Construction delivered a design and build piling solution for the 11 Dublin Street development, utilising Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piling to achieve a highly efficient and precise foundation system.

The works comprised the installation of 174 CFA piles, each 450mm in diameter and extending to depths of approximately 12 metres, supporting the structural requirements of this central city development.

Engineering Approach & Solution Selection

A critical phase of the project involved evaluating two alternative foundation systems, including a traditional screw pile solution.

Following detailed review, Moore Construction proposed an alternative CFA piling methodology, identifying significant advantages in constructability, accuracy, and programme delivery.

Unlike pre-manufactured screw piles, CFA allowed each pile to be drilled to precise, site-verified depths in real time — ensuring consistent performance across variable ground conditions.

Why CFA Piling

  • Drilling and concreting completed in one continuous operation
  • No open hole — reducing collapse risk and improving ground stability
  • Accurate, real-time depth control during installation
  • Reduced dependency on pre-manufactured steel elements
  • Improved programme certainty and efficiency

The CFA process eliminates the need for temporary casing and allows piles to be formed in ground conditions where conventional methods can be challenging.

Construction Delivery

CFA piles were installed using specialist drilling rigs, with the auger advancing to full depth before concrete was pumped through the hollow stem during extraction.

This ensured continuous support of the excavation and immediate formation of the pile, delivering a fast and controlled installation process.

Reinforcement cages were then inserted into the freshly placed concrete, completing the pile construction sequence with minimal disruption.

Quality & Accuracy

Installation was supported by real-time monitoring systems, providing continuous data on drilling parameters, depth, and concreting process to ensure full compliance with design requirements.

This level of control enabled consistent, repeatable results across all 174 piles, reinforcing Moore Construction’s capability in delivering precision foundation systems.

Performance Benefits

  • Faster installation compared to traditional piling methods
  • Reduced noise and vibration — ideal for urban environments
  • Minimal disruption to surrounding structures
  • High productivity with reduced programme duration
  • Reliable outcomes in variable ground conditions

CFA piling is inherently low vibration and reduces the risk of damage to nearby structures, making it especially suited for inner-city developments.
